William Ross State High School is situated in the Townsville Suburb of Annandale, North Queensland. William Ross has a student count from grades 7 through to 12 of 1032 students which continues to rise annually, particularly considering the school's locality for defence families. William Ross also services predominantly the suburbs of Annandale, Stuart, Wulguru, Cluden, Serene Valley, Alligator Creek, Cungulla, Oak Valley, Woodstock, Calcium, Idalia, Oonoonba and Fairfield waters. The school offers a variety of academic, art and sports programs, and offers a "leading learner" program for junior students (grade 7 -10) which is a program used by the school to teach students extended English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science in order to better prepare them for later learning endeavours. In order for students to be considered a position in Leading Learner classes, they are required to sit a test during grade 6. The school also offers students the "RHINOS" Sports Excellence program for junior and senior students which caters to the following sports: Baseball, Basketball, Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Rugby Union, Soccer & Touch.
